Setting Up, Operations & Maintenance

Step 1: Identify and assess of variability in the farm plot through Grid Soil Sampling , and Crop Scouting . You can take help of technologies such as Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) and Remote Sensing . Or simply draw a map and note your results (dry and wet patches, stony or sandy patches, etc). Create a yield Map utilizing Yield Monitors (link to technology) or note your observations on the same map (strong plants or wilted plants; healthy or pest infested plants).

Step 2: 9 Feed the data into a computer based knowledge management and analysis database known as Geographic Information System (GIS). Or you can use your hand drawn map and mark the results of your observations.

Step 3: Using the computer generated data or your hand drawn map, apply the variable rate inputs with regard to precision fertilizer application (link to technology), precision irrigation technology, and precision pest management. Monitor the yield to know whether your decisions were correct or adjust the inputs suitably.
