Geologist
"Geologists examine and record the structure and make-up of the earth and associated materials, such as rocks and fossils. Their tasks include studying samples of earth or rock core to measure the effect of soil erosion, and preparing reports on their findings for relevant government or scientific bodies (Geologist, n.d)" "Specialist Geologists are:
Engineering Geologists investigate sites before foundations and earthworks for large civil engineering projects begin.
Environmental Geologists are concerned with disposal of waste of all types and they evaluate the environmental impact of construction projects.
Geo-Hydrologistslocate, assess and analyze the sources of water, identify threats to water pollution, provide advise for the site and construction of reservoirs.
Geo-Morphologists study processes such as erosion and glaciations
Hydrologists are responsible for identifying, measuring and analyzing sources of water.
Mineralogists analyze and classify minerals and precious stones in rocks and mineral deposits through chemical and physical analysis for use by industries.
Marine Geologists study the ocean floor while physical oceanographers study the physical aspects of oceans such as currents and their contact with the atmosphere.
Petroleum Geologists conduct tests for locating natural gas and oil deposits both onshore and offshore. They also give advice on the commercial viability of an exploration project.
Paleontologists study fossils found in geological formations to trace the evolution of plant and animal life and estimate their age.
Seismologists interpret data to locate earthquakes and earthquake faults.
Stratigraphers study the distribution and arrangement of sedimentary rock layers for understanding the distribution of land and sea.
Geologists teach and carry out academic research in universities.
Geologists also work as museum curators ("Career as geologist", n.d.)
