Indviduals can work in 1) planning commission, 2) planning board 3) ministry of economic affairs 4) national sample survey and other allied offices where specialists in economics and statistics are required. 5) Labour Bureau, 6) Central Electricity Authority 7) Economic Advisers to many ministries 8) Forward Market Commission 9) Tariff Commission 10). Candidates may even go on deputations to different agencies of United Nations

3. interest in the economic situation in India
Citizens of India, Nepal and Bhutan qualify to apply for this test. It also includes Tibetian refugee who have come to Indian before qst January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India. An individual of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of
Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or Vietnam with
the intention of permanently settling in India
The age limit for the candidate is between 21 years and less than 30 years. This should be checked from the upsc website at the time of application . Relaxation in age limit is given to cadidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC, candidates with domicile from Jammu and Kashmir, disabled defense services personnel due to hostility with foreign countries, ex-servicemen, deaf , mute and orthopaedically disabled persons. Minimum education requirements: " a) A candidate for the Indian Economic Service must have obtained a Post-Graduate Degree in
Economics/Applied Economics/Business Economics/Econometrics from a University incorporated by of an Act of
the Central or State Legislature in India or other Educational Institutes established by an Act Parliament or
declared to be deemed as University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 or a Foreign
University approved by the Central Government from time to time.
(b) A candidate for the Indian Statistical Service must have obtained a Bachelor's Degree with
Statistics/Mathematical Statistics/Applied Statistics as one of the subject or a Master's degree in
Statistics/Mathematical Statistics/Applied Statistics from a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or
State Legislature in India or other Educational Institutes established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be
deemed as University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 or a Foreign University
approved by the Central Government from time to time("Indian Econmic Service/Indian Statistic Service Examination, 2016", 2016). Candidates must be physically fit according to the physical standard for admission to Indian Economic Service/ Indian Statistic Service. The examination comprises of written examiniation and personal interview for those who qualify written examination. the written examination of Indian Economic Service comrpises of subjects such as General English (150 marks), General studies (150 marks), General Economics-I (200 marks), General Economics- II (200 marks), Indian Economics(200 marks). The written test of Indian Statistical Service comrpises of subjects such as General English(150 marks), General studies(150 marks), Statistics-I (200 marks) , Statistics -II(200 marks) and Statistics-III(200 marks). Each Paper is of 3 hours duration. All question papers will be of conventional (essay) type. The standard of papers in General English and General Studies will be that of a graduate of an Indian University. The standard of papers of other subjects will be that of the Masters degree examination.
