About The Occupation

The Indian Forest Service comes under Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate change. It is a central government service. The examination is conducted by Union Public Service Commission. The selected candidates are trained for a year an after that they are appointed as divisional forest officers of a particular division in 4 to 5 years time

Eligibility

Citizens of India, Nepal and Bhutan qualify to apply for this test. It also includes Tibetian refugee who have come to Indian before qst January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India.   An individual of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of

Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or Vietnam with

the intention of permanently settling in IndiaThe age eligibility is to be checked at t he time of application. For the year 2016, it was minimum age of 21 years and maximum age of 32 years as on 1st August 2016 and age relaxations are provided as per government rules. "The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree with at least one of the following subjects:

Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology, Agriculture, Forestry, Agriculture Engineering, Forestry Engineering.

The Degree should be granted from of any of Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University Under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification("Eligibility for Indian Forest Service", n.d.)."                                                                              The written exam consists of General English (300 marks), General Knowledge (300 marks), paper III, IV ,V and VI are any two subjects selected from the list of the optional subjects. Each subject will have two papers. The optional subjects are Agriculture, Botany, Civil Engineering,

Mathematics,Physics, Agricultural Engineering, Chemistry,Forestry, Mechanical, Statistics, Animal Husbandary & Veterinary Science, Chemical Engineering, Geology, Engineering, zoology. Candidates won't be allowed the following combination of the subjects Provided that the candidates will not be allowed to offer the following combination of subjects:

(a) Agriculture and Agricultural Engineering

(b) Agriculture and Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science

(c) Chemistry and Chemical Engineering

(d) Mathematics and Statistics

(e) Of the Engineering subjects viz. Agricultural Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering - not more than one subject
