"Microbiology is the study of microscopic organisms that are either single-celled (unicellular), cell colony (multicellular) or acellular (lacking cells). Microbiology includes many sub-disciplines like virology, mycology, parasitology and bacteriology(Shree, 2016)

1)Microbiologists can work in the area of food, pharmacy, agrochemistry biotechnology, biorefinery, environment, pollution control and bioremediation. 2) In the field of agriculture, microbiologists act as environmental and health specialists to study the role of microbes in plant disease, pest control, nutrition and soil fertility. 3)In the field of medicine and health care, the work is usually associated with diagnosis, prevention and treatment of illnesses associated with microbes. 4)Universities and colleges employ microbiologists as researchers and teachers
A microbiologist needs:
1)to enjoy working in a laboratory
2)a passion for using science to solve problems
3)to be comfortable handling microbial samples, possibly including human tissues, fungi or bacteria
4) high attention to detail
5)good concentration
6)practical writing skills in order to produce reports
7)the ability to work well in a team
Microbiology being a science subject can be pursued by candidates with background in science at higher secondary level. B.Sc. and further M.Sc. courses and Ph.D can be taken up at the institutions and universities offering these courses. Candidates who have passed 12th or equivalent with Biology or Mathematics as one of their subjects can opt for under graduate courses. For post graduate courses the students who have passed B.Sc with Life Science/Microbiology are eligible
