About The Occupation

The main responsibility of the Staff Selection Commission is to make recruitment to Group C (non-technical) & Group B (non-gazetted- both technical & non-technical) posts in departments of Government of India, its attached & subordinate offices except those for which recruitment is made by the Railway Recruitment Boards & Industrial Establishments.

 The Staff Selection Commission(SSC) is also assigned the task of conducting Departmental Examinations for

• Promotion from Group D to LDC Grade,

• Promotion from LDC to UDC Grade and

• Promotion from Stenographers Grade D to Stenographers Grade C besides holding Periodical Typewriting Tests in English & Hindi.

The Staff Selection Commission has a nationwide network of 9 Regional/Sub-regional Offices located at Allahabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Guwahati, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi & Sub-regional offices located at Chandigarh & Raipur.

Main responsibilities of Staff Selection Commission's Regional/Sub-regional Offices include, inter alia, implementing the policies & programmes of the Commission, supervising & overseeing its field operations, liaisoning & establishing rapport with State Governments & their Departments, making arrangements for impartial & smooth conduct of examinations, assisting Interview Boards & servicing the Examination Centres within their area of jurisdiction.

 "The SSC CGL (Combined Graduate Level) exams are held every year and applicants have to clear all three tiers in the exam. Tier 1 of the SSC CGL exams involves answering multiple choice questions on subjects like Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and General English.

After you pass the Tier 1, you will have one month of preparation time to attempt the Tier 2 exams. The Tier 2 exams also have a multiple choice question format. However, the syllabus and subjects for Tier 2 are different.

Quantitative Abilities – 200 marks/100 questions (compulsory for all)

English Language & Comprehension – 200 marks/200 questions (compulsory for all)

Statistics – 200 marks/100 questions (only for candidates who wish to apply for the post of Statistical Investigator Gr. II & Compiler)

 Matric Level- Stenographer Grade `C`, Stenographer Grade `D`, and Lower Division Clerks.(ii) Direct interviews are held for some posts, called Selection Posts, after inviting applications through advertisements, as and when such vacancies are reported to the Commission. Some of such posts are Statistical Assistant, Store Keeper, Jr/Sr. Computors, Information Assistant, etc.

Eligibility

The age limits are different for different posts and are to confirmed from the Notice of exam published in the Employment News / Rozgar Samachar. Generally, the age limits are 18 to 27 years on the crucial date. The age concession in the upper age limit for SCs/STs is 5 years, for OBCs it is 3 years and for physically handicapped candidates it is 10 years. For widows, divorced women and judicially seperated women, the agelimit is 35 years for UR category; 40 years for SC/ST women and 38 years for OBC women. The Notice of the Exam may be consulted regarding age relaxations for Ex-servicemen and Departmental candidates. SC/ST, physically handicapped and Ex-servicemen candidates are exempted from payment of fees.
