The Denotified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes (DNTs) have been at the peripheries of the society for a long time. While benefits of reservations scholarships etc. were available to SCs/STs/OBCs, no such welfare schemes are available for the welfare of these DNTs i.e. those who are not covered under SC, ST or OBC. The Scheme is for bringing about a focused intervention on these classes so that they are empowered socially and economically and their lives are also improved. This scheme is of continuous and permanent nature. The scholarship schemes is for individual beneficiaries not covered under any scheme. The financial assistance would be released to the State Governments/UT Administrations/ Universities/Colleges which would cater to the requirements of the students belonging to DNT communities(Ministry of social justice and welfare, n.d.)
for pre matric scholarship Class I to VIII Rs. 1000 per student for 10 month. Class IX to X Rs. 1500 per student for 10 month. For post matric scholarship Group I (i)Degree and Post Graduate level courses in Medicine (Allopathic, Indian and other recognized systems of medicines), Engineering, Technology, Planning, Architecture, Design, Fashion Technology, Agriculture, Veterinary & Allied Sciences, Management, Business Finance /Administration, Computer Science/ Applications.(ii) Commercial Pilot License (including helicopter pilot and multiengine rating) course.(iii) Post Graduate Diploma courses in various branches of management & medicine.(iv) C.A./I.C.W.A./C.S./I.C.F.A. etc.(v) M. Phil., Ph.D. and Post Doctoral Programmes (D. Litt., D.Sc. etc.), Group I, Group II and Group III courses(vi) L.L.M. group 1 will get 1200 for hostellers per month for 10 months and 550 for day scholar per month for 10 months. Group II (i) Professional Courses leading to Degree, Diploma, Certificate in areas like Pharmacy (B Pharma), Nursing(B Nursing), LLB, BFS, other para- medical branches like rehabilitation, diagnostics etc., Mass Communication, Hotel Management & Catering, Travel/Tourism/Hospitality Management, Interior Decoration, Nutrition & Dietetics, Commercial Art, Financial Services for which entrance qualification is minimum Sr. Secondary (10+2).(ii) Post Graduate courses not covered under Group I eg. MA/M Sc/M.Com/M Ed./M. Pharma etc.group 2 will get 820 per month for 10 month for hostellers and 530 per month for 10 month for day scholars. Group III. All other courses leading to a graduate degree not covered under Group I & II eg. BA/B Sc/B Com etc. group 3 will get 570 per month for 10 month for hostellers and 300 per month for 10 month for day scholars. Group IV All post-matriculation level non-degree courses for which entrance qualification is High School (Class X), e.g.senior secondary certificate (class XI and XII); both general and vocational stream, ITI courses, 3 year diploma courses in Polytechnics, etc. group 4 will get 380 per month for 10 month for hosetller and 230 per month for 10 months for day scholar.
Those Denotified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes, (DNTs) whose family income is less than Rs. 2.0 lacs per annum are eligible for awarding the pre matric scholarship and post matric scholarship(ministry of social justice and empowerment, n.d.)
