What is it?
Rain water harvesting
It is a method for channelising, collecting, storing and conserving local surface runoff for agriculture in arid and semi-arid regions.
Two types of rainwater harvesting methods are:
Micro-catchments - surface runoff from small catchment area and storing it in adjacent infiltration basin or percolation pond having a depth equal to root zone (depth where we generally find roots of plants). Tree species, shrubs / bush or grass should be planted along the margin of the basin | |
Macro-catchments - runoff from hill-slope catchments is conveyed to the cropping area located at the base of the hill on flat terrain |
