Setting up, operation and maintenance
Strip cropping
The farmer should keep in mind the plant location, spacing within the intercropped plants and species selection while setting up strip cropping.
The planted rows of crops should be perpendicular to the contour in contour strip farming.
The planted rows of crops should be perpendicular to the wind direction in wind strip farming.
The farmer should select native species, which generally have higher survival and estabilishment rates. Species that will grow taller on the site, with an appropriate foliage density and growth rate should be considered for wind strip cropping and permanent/buffer strip cropping
Grasses or legumes should be planted on field borders and waterways should be established as part of stripcropping system.
