Knapsack Sprayers- Manual
TECHNOLOGY / FUNCTIONING
Knapsack sprayer consists of a pump and air chamber permanently installed in a 9 to 22.5 liters tank. The handle of the pump extending over the shoulder or under the arm of operator makes it possible to pump with one hand and spray with the other.
CATEGORY
NRE
MAINTANENCE
Depressurise the sprayer and clean it with water after every use. If the nozzle is obstructed, clean it with water and do not use metal objects. If the handle filter blocks, remove it and clean it with water. Store the sprayer under protection to avoid frosts and strong heat (between 5º and 30ºC). To extend the life of the seals, regularly apply a few drops of oil or grease to all moving parts.
UTILITY
Plant protection
APPLICATION
Knapsack sprayers are used for spraying insecticides and pesticides on small tress’ shrubs and row crops.
COST/UNIT
Rs. 2,000/- (approx.)
DURABILITY
The product has a life cycle of 3 - 5 years.
ESTIMATED CAPACITY
Pump discharge (ml/min) - 610 - 896
SOCIAL ECONOMIC BENEFIT
The knapsack sprayer allows spray solution to be directed to the biological target, thereby allowing the operator to reduce as much as possible the total amount of pesticide applied. The relatively low cost of knapsack sprayers requires a minimal initial investment when compared to other options for application equipment

Knapsack Sprayers- Motorised
TECHNOLOGY / FUNCTIONING
It consists of two plastic tanks (fuel and water/dust), engine, pump, spray hose, rope starter, delivery pipe, cut-off-cock, shoulder straps and a frame. It has a small 2-stroke petrol/kerosene engine of 35 cc to which a centrifugal fan is connected. The fan produces a high velocity air stream, which is diverted through a 90-degree elbow to a flexible (plastic) discharge hose, which has a divergent outlet. Upon rotation of the engine the fan produces a high velocity air stream. The control valve for the spray is opened gradually and adjusted for the desired flow rate. The operator directs the discharge hose to the target. It can be converted for dusting and ULV application.

Pheromone Trap
TECHNOLOGY / FUNCTIONING
A pheromone trap is a type of insect trap that uses pheromones to lure insects. Once attracted, a sticky board or catching bucket captures the insect inside and doesn’t let it escape.
CATEGORY
NRE
MAINTANENCE
Handle and store pheromone lures appropriately or they will not be effective. Replace traps and lures when needed. Place the traps so that they do not interfere with each other or with traps for other insects. If traps get full of dirt, other insects or leaf bits, or if they sag from being wet for too long, they should be changed.
UTILITY
Plant protection
APPLICATION
Pheromone traps are used both to count insect populations by sampling, and to trap pests to control their population.
COST/UNIT
Cost of trap Rs. 20 - 50 /piece
DURABILITY
The lure effect lasts between 30 to 45 days and therefore needs to be repalced occasionally.
ESTIMATED CAPACITY
No of traps per acre: 2 - 4 (Depending on the number of pests.)
SOCIAL ECONOMIC BENEFIT
Pheromone traps help in controlling pest population which ultimately lead to increased food production, increased profits and prevention of diseases. Reduces the amount of time and labour required to manually catch the pest in the field.

Yellow Sticky Trap
TECHNOLOGY / FUNCTIONING
Sticky cards are glue-based traps frequently used in pest control to catch and monitor insects and other pests. Typically sticky cards consist of a sticky glue layer mounted on a piece of cardboard
CATEGORY
NRE
MAINTANENCE
Clean the tin or plywood or hardwood traps by dipping into the hot water for couple of minutes to soften the sticky coating. Discard dead insects by using brush or duster. Dry the traps completely and recoat with similar glue for reinstallation. Cardbord traps should be discarded after use.
UTILITY
Plant protection
APPLICATION
Yellow sticky traps are basically used to trap/monitor pests
COST/UNIT
Rs. 10 - 50 / piece
DURABILITY
For effectiveness the sticky traps should be removed from greenhouses and fields every seven days and be replaced by new ones.
ESTIMATED CAPACITY
No of traps per acre: 6 - 8.
SOCIAL ECONOMIC BENEFIT
Highly effective, non-toxic and easy to use. Help in controlling the population of pests.

Tractor Operated Aero Blast Sprayer
TECHNOLOGY / FUNCTIONING
The machine consists of a tank of 400 litre capacity, pump, fan, control valve, filling unit, spout adjustable handle and spraying nozzles. The nozzles release the pesticide solution into stream of air blast produced by the centrifugal blower. The air blast distributes chemical in the form of very fine particles throughout its swath on one side of tractor. The major portion of swath is covered by the main blast through the main spout and auxiliary nozzles cover the swath area near the tractor. The sprayer is mounted on the tractor 3-point linkage and operated by tractor PTO.
