ABOUT PRAGYA INDIA

Pragya takes a practical and culturally-sensitive and ecologically sustainable approach to development. Our work is grounded in long-term community partnerships where communities engage in creating the change they want to see, and ensure that their environment is protected. Working through a combination of grassroots initiatives, scientific and policy research, and advocacy, Pragya enhances the capacities of individuals, communities and institutions to create more humane and equitable societies.

Pragya (India) is registered as a Trust under the Indian Trusts Act, and has an FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act, India) certification. Pragya has 14 offices in India: the India Coordinating Office at Gurgaon and field offices at Salumber, Dungarpur, Rudraprayag, Joshimath, Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh, Narayanpur, Tezpur, Madhepura, Araria, Leh, Keylong and Bharmour.

Pragya is recognized as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (SIRO) by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. Pragya has Special Consultative Status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

OUR IMPACT

• Vocational training for 8400+ youth set them on a path to decent and gainful work and niche-sector livelihoods at the bottom of the pyramid

• 13000 farmers have access to cash crops, agricultural technologies and cooperatives, and ways to adapt to climate change

• Solar and wind micro-grids reaching electricity to several villages and cadre of Rural Technopreneurs for support

• 39 species of medicinal plants and 32 bird and animal species, 27 wetlands and springs being conserved in Himalayas

• 16000 women and girls have improved nutrition, health and education, are asserting themselves against violence and discrimination, and accessing their economic rights

• Nearly 4000 migrant workers and slum residents have improved healthcare, education, water and sanitation, and higher levels of inclusion

• 1500+ safe water and sanitation facilities in communities, schools, migrant worker settlements and nomadic groups

• Healthcare and nutrition inputs for 16 underserved districts have reduced malnutrition and disease for women and children

• 17000 children in 21 last-mile communities educated through mobile schools and non-formal centres

• Girls’ enrolment, educational performance and retention in schools increased in 7 districts, and attitudes being changed

• Distress of 100,000+ disaster-affected alleviated, provided shelter, food, medicines and other essentials,and assisted build back

• 800 community youth trained for early warning and emergency response, helping preparedness and mitigating risks for 17 remote vulnerable communities in areas vulnerable to natural disasters and climate change
