TILLAGE AND SEEDBED

01. Disk Harrow

TECHNOLOGY / FUNCTIONING

It is used to till the soil where crops are to be planted, also used to chop up unwanted weeds or crop remainders. The tractor mounted disc harrow consists of two gangs of discs mounted one behind the other. The disc on front gang throws soil outwards and the rear gang inward. Therefore, no soil remains uncut by the offset disc harrow. It is secondary tillage implement. It is used after the primary tillage and is used to break the clods developed during primary tillage operation.

MAINTENANCE

Clean your disc harrow after each use. Remove dirt and debris that have clung on to the equipment. If you need to store your disc harrow for an extended period, it is highly recommended that you clean it with a low-pressure water spray.

UTILITY

02. Power Harrow

TECHNOLOGY / FUNCTIONING

Power Harrow is a primary tillage implement. Its blades are sharp and long enough to till depths of any soil and improve its organic structure. Moisture remains in the soil and the water balance of the soil is maintained since the soil is not turned up as it is tilled. The vertically rotating cutters also prevent compaction of the soil , thus resulting in optimum preparation of the seed-beds.

MAINTENANCE

All lubrication points must be re-lubricated after the machine has been washed. The best way to store the harrow is to elevate it using the centre section corners as support, whereupon no weight is placed on the tines or tires. The tires, bearings and hydraulic hoses can be damaged as a result of long-term outdoor storage and therefore should be stored inside a dry shady area.

UTILITY

Preparation of Land (Tillage)

APPLICATION

Power harrow may only be used for the specified purpose like mechanical soil tillage and seed-bed preparation.

COST/UNIT (India)

INR. 55,000 - 1,50,000 (approx.)

COST/UNIT (Bangladesh)

BDT 1,25,000 (approx.)

DURABILITY

Its sturdy structure is welded with high thickness plates which makes sure that it operates under toughest conditions. Its Gear Box designed with quality components promises longer life cycle of the implement.

ESTIMATED CAPACITY

10-43 ha/day.

SOCIO ECONOMIC BENEFIT

Power harrows finely break up the soil, refining and evenly distributing it over the entire working width to create a perfect seed bed: they are generally used for secondary tillage after ploughing or subsoiling and can break up even the most compacted ground, often in a single pass. They enable an extremely high crop yield since they do not invert soil layers, but rather help to maintain the soil’s natural composition, structure and biodiversity.

03. Power Tiller

TECHNOLOGY / FUNCTIONING

It is basically a set of blades (called tines) that are mounted within a wheeled housing and are powered by either a gasoline engine or an electric motor. Each tine consists of four blades curving in alternately opposing directions. The inward-pointing tines keep the clods of soil and grass from accumulating on the blades, while the outward-pointing tines are the heavy cutters. They all work in conjunction with one another to dig into the soil aggressively.

MAINTENANCE

With time, the tines will become dull and need sharpening—you'll know it's time to sharpen if the tiller does not easily cut through soil. The oil and air filter need to be changed on a regular basis. Needs to be stored in dry and shady area.

UTILITY

Preparation of Land (Tillage)

APPLICATION

Power tillers can be used for ploughing the soil, sowing seeds, planting seedlings, adding fertilizers etc.

COST/UNIT (India)

INR. 30,000 - 60,000 (approx.)
