It is a manually operated push type device for dibbling of medium and bold size seeds such as maize, soybean, sorghum, pigeon pea and bengal gram in well prepared seedbed. For its operation, the hopper is filled with seeds and pushed forward in the direction of travel. The jaws penetrate into the soil and automatically drop the seeds.

MAINTENANCE

Post usage, it is advisable to clean the dibbler to get rid of any attached dirt. Inspect the tools for any damage caused during the usage and if there is any repair them immediately. Lubricate the tool occasionally to help them perform better and reduce wear and tear. Store in a dry/ safe area to avoid rusting and damage.

02. Seed-Cum-Fertilizer Drill

TECHNOLOGY / FUNCTIONING

The seed cum fertilizer drill consists of a seed box, fertilizer box, seed and fertilizer metering mechanisms, seed tubes, furrow openers, seed and fertilizer rate adjusting lever and transport cum power transmitting wheel. The fluted rollers are driven by a shaft which gets power from wheels. Fluted rollers fixed in the seed box, receive the seeds into longitudinal grooves and drop them in the seed tube attached to the furrow opener.

MAINTENANCE

Check tyne condition and pressure on all wheels. Check and grease all pivot points and ensure they are free to move. Thoroughly wash the drill with warm soapy water before storage allow to dry and liberally apply a rust prevention oil to the whole of the machine to protect it from corrosion.

03. Zero Till Drill / Happy Seeder

TECHNOLOGY / FUNCTIONING

Zero-till-drill consists of frame, seed box, fertilizer box, seed metering mechanism, fertilizer metering mechanism’, seed tubes, furrow opener seed/fertiliser adjusting mechanism and transport cum power transmitting wheel. The frame is made from mild steel box section. The tynes are mounted with the help of clamps, to obtain infinite row spacing.

04. Tractor operated Strip-till Drill

TECHNOLOGY / FUNCTIONING

The drill is essentially a 9-row seed-cum-fertilizer drill with a rotary blade attachment for minimum soil manipulation running ahead of the normal furrow openers. The rotary attachment consists of a frame with a rotor having ‘9’ flanges.

05. Naveen Dibbler (Gender Friendly)

TECHNOLOGY / FUNCTIONING

It consists of jaw type seed placement device, cell type metering mechanism, lever type power transmission system for roller and jaws and seed box with delivery system. After filling the desired seed to be sown in field, the worker should keep the dibbler at desired place and gently push the lever (front of dibbler) for opening the jaw so that seed may drop.

MAINTENANCE

06. Two/ Four Row Rice Transplanter (Gender Friendly)

TECHNOLOGY / FUNCTIONING

This equipment consists of frame, floats, seedling tray, operating handle, fingers (pickers), tray drive unit and depth control mechanism. The seedling mats may be loaded on the machine tray after sprinkling little water over the tray surface for smooth sliding of mat. After lifting the operating handle, it may be pushed down gently to push the seedlings kept in tray for transplanting.

MAINTENANCE

Clean the transplanter after paddy transplanting. Check the condition of the pickup forks. If the pickup folks are damaged seriously, replace them. Replace the engine oil and gear oil regularly according to the requirement on the operation instruction. Check whether the components are in good conditions and adjust them.

07. Tractor Mounted Raised Bed Planter

TECHNOLOGY / FUNCTIONING

The bed planter consists of a frame, planting hoppers, fertilizer box, furrow openers, bed shaper and power transmitting wheel. The frame is made of mild steel sections. The furrow openers are ridger type and have mould board and share point. The wing span of the mould board can be adjusted. The share is made of medium carbon steel or alloy steel, hardened and tempered to suitable hardness. The machine makes two beds. It can sow two or three rows of wheat on each bed.

MAINTENANCE

Rotate the drive wheel till the seed and fertilizer from different seed and fertilizer cups are emptied. Clean the boxes and cups with the help of a cloth or brush. Wash the machine rollers/seed/fertilizer boxes with diesel to avoid rusting. Apply lubricating oil at appropriate places (bushes and sides of metering rollers).

Tractor operated 6-row inclined plate planter is a multi-crop planter for planting of bold and small seeds. The planter consists of a frame with tool bar, modular seed boxes, furrow openers and ground drive wheel system. Shoe type furrow openers ensure deep seed placement in moist zone for sowing under dryland condition. 09. Tractor Operated Vegetable Transplanter (Picker Wheel Type)

TECHNOLOGY / FUNCTIONING

A two row semi-automatic planter having picker wheel type metering mechanism has been developed at PAU, Ludhiana to transplant root wash type seedlings on the beds as well as on flat fields. Two persons (one for each row) are required to place the seedlings in the flappers when these open at the top position. After the seedling is dropped in the furrow, the soil is compacted around it with the help of two moving inclined wheels.

10. Rapeseed-Mustard Seed Drill

The rapeseed-mustard drill consists of mild steel angle iron frame, seed hopper, fluted roller mechanism for metering of seeds, lugged ground wheels, power transmission system, seed tubes and furrow openers. The seed drill is tractor drawn implement. The fluted rollers are specially designed for metering of rapeseed-mustard seeds. The fluted roller is 50 mm in diameter and has 10 grooves of 2 x 2 mm slots.

11. Tractor Operated Garlic Planter

TECHNOLOGY / FUNCTIONING

A tractor operated six row garlic planter has been developed at PAU, Ludhiana with actuating spoon (23 mm diameter and 2.5 mm depth size) type metering mechanism for planting of garlic at 150 mm row spacing. It consists of seed metering plate, seed hopper, agitator and seed covering device. The power to the metering mechanism is provided from the ground wheel with the help of chain and sprockets. The garlic planter is evaluated for sowing garlic (Punjab Garlic 1 variety) on 1.0 m wide beds.

13. Super Seeder

TECHNOLOGY / FUNCTIONING

Super Seeder is a combination of Rotary Tiller & Seed Planter with press wheels. The metering device is designed with a combination of aluminum & cast iron for better performance & durability. Specially designed blades are used to tackle stubbles and crop residue properly.

MAINTENANCE

Post usage, it is advisable to clean the blades to get rid of any attached dirt. Inspect the tools for any damage caused during the usage and if there is any repair them immediately. Lubricate the tool occasionally to help them perform better and reduce wear and tear.

14. Gorru Seed Drill

TECHNOLOGY / FUNCTIONING

A seed drill consists of a hopper filled with seeds arranged above a series of tubes that can be set at selected distances from each other to allow optimum growth of the resulting plants. Seeds are spaced out using fluted paddles which rotate using a geared drive from one of the drill's land wheels.

MAINTENANCE

Ensure there is no rust in the manifolds as it can plug the outlets, hoses, or openers. Ensure the manifolds have no holes. Check the level of the drill to ensure accurate and even/consistent placement.
